Look Around My Fun Jungle!

About The Teacher

Hello everyone!

My name is Pam Lettera and I will be your child's teacher for the 2014-2015 school year.

I’m so excited to welcome your child to my classroom! I look forward to creating a fun, cheerful environment to encourage your child to learn. I hope they'll leave my charge with some great memories, as I have wonderful memories of my own first grade teacher. It would be my honor to have that same impact on your child. I look forward to meeting the parents, grandparents and family members of my students, but first I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I was born and raised in Bloomingburg, a small village located on the Shawangunk Ridge, in the Shawangunk Mountain region of New York State.
Bloomingburg was the first county seat and over the years, prospered as people came through our area to vacation in the mountains.
The landscape was rural and most of the activities we engaged in as children took place outside.  We spent summers swimming in the area lakes, having backyard barbecues with family and friends, jumping through leaf piles in the fall, and getting out our plastic flying saucer sleds to hit the nearby snow hills in winter.
My mother was a nurse and my father was a Physics Teacher at the local high school.  Imagine what that’s like, having your father teach in your own school!  OK, so it really wasn't that bad.  I think it actually worked in my favor.  And because of the emphasis placed on education in our household, I was guided through my scholastic life by some of the best mentors one could ever ask for!

I received my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education from State University of New York at Oswego in 1990, and my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in 1996.  This is my 11th year teaching public education.  I taught one year of second grade, and this will be my tenth year teaching first.

In addition to my public education experience, I was a Lead Threes Teacher for four years at St. Andrew's Preschool & Kindergarten.

I have been married for 21 years to Michael, my high school sweetheart,

and we have three handsome boys.  Jake started middle school, Joe is a freshman, and Nic is a sophomore in high school.
My family and I have been in Tucson for over 20 years. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family, go to my boys' baseball games, read whatever I can get my hands on (in ten minute increments!) and workout.

I think first grade is such a fascinating year.  This year most children will begin to see themselves as independent thinkers and learners - if they haven't already!

My goal as a teacher is to provide a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment for every child in the classroom. I will do this by getting to know each of the students, personally and academically, in order to provide the best guidance and teaching strategies possible. Most importantly, I will provide lots of support and positive encouragement. I want to make first grade a wonderful learning experience for your child.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child!

Respectfully,
Mrs. Pamela Lettera, Educator
